This module introduces participants to the science of vaccinology, highlighting the critical role of vaccines in preventing infectious diseases. Topics include principles of immunity, vaccine types, and the structure of national immunization programs. The course prepares participants to confidently engage in vaccine advocacy and implementation.
This module explores the science and application of live attenuated vaccines in preventing infectious diseases. It delves into the biology of key pathogens, vaccine formulation, immune response, and Kenya's immunization policies related to these vaccines. Participants will gain competence in vaccine safety, indications, and programmatic use.
This module introduces participants to the scope and application of inactivated vaccines. It examines their role in preventing bacterial and viral infections, with detailed case examples from vaccines against tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, polio, hepatitis, influenza, HPV, and rabies. The module also addresses vaccine schedules, special populations, safety, and national immunization policies.
This module provides comprehensive training on the safe and effective administration of vaccines. It includes hands-on instruction in IM and SC injection techniques, management of vaccine-related injuries, eligibility assessment, and correct documentation. The module also covers national guidelines on COVID-19 vaccination and other special cases such as pregnancy, lactation, and immunocompromised clients.
This module introduces the principles and application of infection prevention and control measures in healthcare settings, with a focus on immunization services and outbreak responses. It explores standard and transmission-based precautions, safe vaccine handling, PPE protocols, safe waste and linen management, and dignified burial practices. Real-life applications during Marburg and Mpox outbreaks are emphasized to improve preparedness and response.
This module is a full-day, hands-on training session conducted at a designated health facility. Participants will actively engage in immunization service delivery, including vaccine preparation, administration, client interaction, and proper documentation. It provides a vital bridge between classroom learning and clinical application.
